Crew/Boat
Captain: Ben is a United States Coast Guard licensed Master Captain with both USCG license sailing and towing endorsements. Ben has been boating since around 5 years old and bought his first sailboat, a Snark, at age 10. Over the years Ben has owned/sailed many types/sizes of sailboats and has always had the love of sailing over the water. Have you recently purchased a vessel around the area and need it moved to another marina or perhaps need an experienced Captain to go out with you on your first few trips? If so, consider calling Captain Ben to discuss what he can do to help.
First Mate: Carol is a Florida Governor Appointed Notary and offers weddings aboard Monomoy. We intend to add a section to our blog explaining more, but for now, feel free to email her at FirstMate [at] sv-Monomoy.com for more information.
Bosun: Blake has been boating since he was about 3 years old. Blake is the Bosun aboard Monomoy, but also the Captain of his own sailing vessel The Force, which is an 8 foot Naples Sabot.
Striker: Pogo is part of the family and has very important jobs, such as dolphin patrol and plate licker.
Monomoy: A 1987 Hunter Legend 37. The overall design of the Legend 37 gives it the appearance of a high-performance boat. The coachroof is kept low and slopes forward, where it settles into the foredeck.
Hunter built the Legend 37 with a solid-fiberglass hull, a balsa-cored deck, and molded interior liners that also incorporated structural components. A solid transverse stiffener divides the main-saloon sole with stringers that run longitudinally on each side of the keel in the boat’s midsection.
The Legend 37’s interior is designed to comfortably accommodate a crew. In Blake’s forward cabin he has a large V-berth, a hanging locker, and his own vanity with sink. Immediately aft of it, and well forward of the boat’s midsection, is the main saloon, with its centerline drop-leaf table.
The aft stateroom offers standing headroom, a pedestal double berth and Captain/First Mate hanging lockers and dressers; it can be entered via the galley or the head.
Under the waterline, the Legend 37 has a balanced spade rudder and a shoal-draft bulb/wing keel. Aloft, she is a fractional rig with double swept-back spreaders and a split backstay.
For auxiliary power, the Monomoy has a 30-horsepower Yanmar 3HM35F diesel currently coupled to a 17×10 two-bladed propeller, though we intend to eventually replace with a 3-blade.
Overall Monomoy is a very comfortable, well appointed vessel and we love her!
