1987 Hunter Legend 37.5

Upcoming Maintenance

Today we scheduled the haul-out of Monomoy for March 2.

We will be putting new bottom and topside paint on her to freshen her up a bit for the spring sailing season. Hopefully we won’t be out of the water for more than a few days.

We ordered new name, port, and registration vinyl for installing after the paint is done. The vinyl was ordered from SpeedySigns.com, who we have used in the past for a great price and excellent results.

The Micron 66 bottom paint was ordered from WholesaleMarine.com for $199/gallon and free shipping.

Progress will be photographed and daily updates will be posted when the time comes.

We still have three potential sailing weekends between now and the haul-out, so if we get on the water, I’ll be sure to update the blog with that as well.

Up the Mast – maintenance

I had needed to get some things done up the mast for a few months. The deck light stopped working and a bulb didn’t help, so I knew there was an issue with the fixture; turned out to be a corroded wire, but I opted for replacing the entire fixture while I was up there. Also, Hurricane Gustav somehow took off our anchor light globe and I guess with the bulb not being protected, it stopped working. So that was another item on the list.

A fellow sailor at the marina, John, needed to go up his mast as well. He suggested we rent an articulating boom lift and pull the boats to the marina sea wall to get up to the top. So that is what we did. Sure did make it easy to carry all needed tools and fixtures up in one shot.

I had plenty of time to install an entirely new anchor light fixture, steaming/deck light fixture, VHF antenna, and inspect all of the rigging.
