Spring Break 2011

We had hoped to get a lot more sailing in over Spring Break, but the wind has been gusty and goofy over the last few weeks.

We did make it out Thursday for a sail over to Little Sabine.

Ben

Tammy, Aja, and Aaron on Keeldover sailed into Little Sabine as well, anchoring nearby.

Aaron gave Aja a lesson in rowing.

rowing

Ben, Blake, and Pogo rowed over to the shallows for some playtime.

Though it wasn’t expected, the wind picked up in the evening. Wind was supposed to be 5-10 and was showing as 8 on NOAA’s site, but we were recording around 18. Keeldover was swinging close to a pier, so a decision was made for Keeldover to raft up to Monomoy, since our hook was well set. It was probably a good thing, because the wind picked up to 22 knots and was howling.

After a sleepless night counting on Danforth, Friday was beautiful!

Carol was after mullet, but caught a catfish.

Keeldover moved back over to where they were anchored the day before, so the crew could row to shore and get some lunch at LandShark. Here’s Aja showing off her new rowing skills.

Once we pulled up the hook, we set sail and passed a few other sailboats enjoying the bay.

Saturday we headed to the Pensacola Naval Museum, after which we spent the rest of the day and Sunday sailing the little boats around Bayou Chico.

Overall it was a nice spring break, though it went really fast with not as much sailing as we would have preferred. Summer is only a month away with the B.E.E.R. Cruise kicking off summer break.
