March 19-20, 2011
Every weekend is better than the last!
Saturday morning started foggy…
…but it quickly cleared up over the bay; though it still lingered inland.
Video of Monomoy sailing through the water.
The Portofino boat was out with tourists covered in oil (tanning oil that is).
Blake.
We sailed out into the Gulf for a bit.
Perdido Key from the Gulf side.
Sailboat passing us in the Gulf. There was plenty of wind, so I’m not sure why they were motorsailing.
Carol made tuna for lunch, which we ate while Otto drove.
Then Blake had a ringpop.
The ICW was busy with sailboats.
Back in Pensacola Bay and heading toward Little Sabine.
We could see Scott sailing s/v Clara off in the distance.
Ralph and Mary in s/v Nightwatch as well.
A regatta was taking place near Bayou Chico’s channel.
Sailors enjoying the Pensacola Bay.
Blake decided to paint some friends.
Then he did a little reading.
Cars were backed up over the bridge to Pensacola Beach well into the evening.
Approaching Little Sabine.
Pensacola Beach.
Once anchored, Carol and Blake made snacks.
Pogo had a snack too.
Lots of birds out.
We took a dinghy ride over to the shoals for some playtime.
Here are a couple pictures of Monomoy at anchor.
Ben and Blake played frisbee and football.
After goofing off in the water, we took a dink ride around to Quietwater. This video is of a Hobie cat sailing about as fast as we were with our 9.5hp outboard on full throttle.
Margaritaville Hotel.
It was time for dinner. Ben and Carol grilled chicken and veggies; they were awesome!!
We awoke Sunday morning with the “SuperMoon” still in view.
Ben and Blake took Pogo to shore for her morning business. Blake decided he wanted to row back, but after about half way he figured the engine could be fired up.
We had breakfast and started to prep for weighing anchor, but a thick fog quickly rolled in. The next few photos are of the Margaritaville hotel and taken within a 5 minute span.
This is another nearby building as the fog was rolling in.
Perhaps thanks to these guys begging for the sun to burn through the fog…
…we were finally out sailing!
Though there was still fog in the air.
Other sailors enjoying the beautiful weekend.
Carol was back in a bikini!
Ken had a crew of three join him for a daysail.
The days are getting much longer, so the pictures will seem as though it is still early with the sun, though it can easily be 6:30 in the evening. Here’s Ben dousing the mainsail to head back to the marina.
Once we returned to the marina, Blake and Carol did some fishing off the dock.
Blake caught some minnows in a net and used them for bait. Only one croaker was caught from the minnows.
The croaker was then used for cutbait.
Though the fish weren’t really biting today.
Blake still enjoyed trying.
Ken returning from his daysail.
Our marina duck friends stopped by for a visit.
Looking forward to the next fabulous sailing weekend!
