Feb. 18-20, 2011
The forecast was for a beautiful weekend and we didn’t want low tides to keep us at the dock, so we headed out Friday evening for Quietwater.
Ken headed out around noon for Quietwater.
Pogo watched the bow.
Ben on the bow.
Sailing along.
Cocktail hour.
The sun was quickly setting.
One other sailboat under the sunset. (look closely to the bottom right of the photo to see the other sailboat)
As we approached Quietwater.
By the time we set the anchor, it was dark.
Ken made it to Quietwater earlier on Friday and stayed overnight. It was foggy just before sunrise.
Here is Ken’s boat at sunrise Saturday morning.
Early on there was no wind, so we dinghy’d over to the beach for some sand play.
Blake.
Carol.
Blake took this picture of mom and dad.
Then we set the timer and took a family picture.
We headed back over to Monomoy for some R&R; still no wind.
Carol used our Fagor induction cooktop to make fried pickles.
Looking yummy.
Blake clearly agreed.
The beach was packed with folks coming for some sand and sun.
A child lost their beach ball, which drifted into the bay, so Ben hopped into Sandy Cheeks (our dinghy) and went to the rescue.
Finally the wind picked up a little, but it was getting later in the day and we had friends coming over, so we opted to just stay put at this point, but others clearly took advantage of the wind.
Carol was enjoying the warm weather; temp made it to about 75 and with no real wind, it was actually warm.
Aja and Aaron boated over with 3 of their friends to raft up for a little hangout time, but we didn’t get any pics. Shortly after they departed, Fantasea showed up.
The sun set once again.
Coy and Iris stopped by for a minute before cruising on over to the beach for a burger.
The sun came right back up the next morning.
Sunday morning there was once again no wind, so we took Sandy Cheeks back to the beach for some morning volleyball, but forgot the camera on the boat, so no pictures of the fun; it was a good time though.
It was time to pull the anchor and head back, but we still didn’t have any wind, so we put up the spinnaker.
Blake hanging out.
Carol.
We had a sailboat coming up quick behind us, who then passed us, with jib only, but we could clearly hear their diesel running at full bore. We suspect they didn’t have any water pumping through, because not much later they came to a stop and had SeaTow come get them.
Finally the wind picked up, so we doused the spinnaker, deployed the genoa and cruised.
Another sailor was enjoying the bay too!
When it was time to head back to the marina, Blake manned his station.
We settled right back into our slip and got started on cleanup.
What a fantastic weekend!
