Finally a break in the bad weather pattern.

Saturday, Sept 26…

Finally a break in the bad weather.  I was beginning to think the closest we were going to get to sailing is watching Blake play in the dock carts during the frequent rain we’ve had pretty much all summer.

We had a great day sail.  The plan (once again) was to cruise to Josephine, AL, but the weather report called for ~60% chance of rain and the radar wasn’t looking pretty, so we decided to settle for a day sail.  It worked out well though, because we had the opportunity to dine with Markus and his family as well as friends from the marina over at The Oar House.

The sailing was perfect with the right wind conditions for an awesome time.

We forgot our regular camera both days, so we improvised with camera phones.  They do OK up close, but aren’t worth anything for distance shots, so we don’t have many pictures from this weekend.  We’ll be sure not to forget the camera in the future.

Sunday, Sept 27…

I think this was the weather’s April Fool day.  The morning began quite odd.  We had left the SPOT (tracker) on all night and it showed somewhere after midnight that Monomoy decided to run all around the marina and up into the canal.  That was cause for concern, so I drove straight down to the marina to find her sitting comfortably in her slip just as we had tucked her in.  I suspect something odd was going on with the atmosphere that was affecting SPOT.  Good news is it wasn’t off by much, but it is still concerning that it couldn’t pin point a boat sitting in one spot all night.

The wind played tricks with us as well.  We headed out around 9:30am with a plan of resting the hook at Ft. Pickens for lunch.  Wind started around 5 knots, but by the time we made it to Ft. Pickens the wind was up to 12 knots (weather called for 8 knots max for the day).  We decided to round back instead of anchoring and sail for a bit more when the wind increased to 15 knots.  Since the wind wasn’t following the predicted weather, we decided to head back to the marina and started doing some cruising, but then the wind essentially died on us about as fast as it had picked up.

We did run across Ken and Sherie in Private Stock Too while out.  Remember, this is a camera phone pic.

They took a great shot of Monomoy.

Labor Day Weekend

Well, the weather wasn’t predicted to be nice this weekend, so we canceled our Pirate Cove plans and instead just did some day sailing on Saturday.

We cruised out in the morning with Blake at the helm…

Blake was responding to the Coast Guard’s request for all mariners to be on the lookout for a vessel taking on water in the Pensacola Pass.  No worries, he didn’t actually hold the mic button in, cause he knows it isn’t a toy.

Carol was having fun.

After a great day of sailing Monomoy, we returned to the marina for pizza dinner and Sherie provider appetizers.  Later, Blake and Ben took an afternoon sail on The Force.

Blake did some fishing with shrimp as bait.

Later that night we took Monomoy back out for a night sail with some boat guests.  Brice, Jason, Ken, Sherie, and Jason’s father went out with us for a evening cruise.  Blake took some photos.

Jason was pooped out.

Sherie was listening hard to the conversation.

Ken was into the conversation as well.

Later that night Ken and Sherie took out Ken’s catamaran and I took out The Force for a last late night short sail.  Carol took some pictures, but none really turned out due to it being so dark out.

It was a fun filled day/night with great family and friends.  Next weekend is Blake’s birthday party, so probably no sailing will occur, but hopefully the following weekend we’ll finally get that Pirate’s Cove trip in.
