June 27, 2009…
We headed out around 10am for a two hour day sail. We had intended to sail much longer, but weather reports indicated possible bad weather surrounding the area and we could see the clouds dancing around us. We occasionally even felt raindrops come down. It’s too bad, because the bay was nearly flat, but the wind was around 10 knots, which made for some great sailing. We hit 7 knots at one point with only a 15 degree list.
No pictures for the day. We’re returning to the marina this evening for cocktail hour.

June 22, 2009…
We took some friends out for an afternoon sail. Jaime, Annelle, and Thomas are in town visiting from Savannah. Annelle nor Thomas had ever been sailing before, so it was cool to be able to take them out. We just sailed around the bay for a bit before returning to the dock and heading home for cocktail hour. We didn’t take any pictures to post, but it sure was a nice day for sailing.

This morning was beautiful to get out on the water. We headed out sometime this morning, but didn’t pay any attention to the time. Wind started out around 8 knots, dropped to nothing, then picked back up to around 6 knots by the time we headed in. It was comfortable under sail, but really hot sitting at the dock.
We have a macerator pump between our head and holding tank which decided to quit today. I pulled out the old pump, then we scrubbed the deck before heading home.
I was going to rebuild the pump, which is only 14 months old, but a rebuild kit is about $70. I decided to check with wholesalemarine.com and found the pump for $108 with shipping. I originally paid about $150 for the current pump at West Marine. Figures that it made it just past the warranty.
Here are some pics from today…

This isn’t exactly a Monomoy posting, but there is sailing involved.
We departed Pensacola for Maryland on June 10 and returned on June 16 to visit family.
We spent several days sailing on my dad’s/step-mom’s Gemini 105Mc ‘Moor Fun’.
Here’s my dad at the helm…

Heading under a bridge…

We don’t need GPS, as my dad consults the chart…

June 5, 2009…
The cruise officially began on Friday the 5th, which consisted of an awesome meal prepared by the GRITSters (Gulf Regional Interstate Trailer Sailors) and the skipper’s meet.
June 6, 2009…
We pulled out of the marina around 7am and headed in a Northerly direction to take a morning pass by the Juan Sebastian de Elcano which is in port as part of Pensacola’s 450th Anniversary Celebration.

The day started out beautiful with forecast calling for clear skies and max of 8 knot wind.

After we went by the tall-ship, we turned South to head to our first destination at Redfish Point.
BEER Cruisers at anchorage…

More BEER Cruisers…

More Beer Cruisers…

The wind actually picked up to 20 knots at one point, which made for a very choppy anchorage.
It still ended up a beautiful evening as we ate our grilled steak and shrimp…

More sunset…

June 7, 2009…
We woke up around 5am, fixed coffee and breakfast, then headed out around 7am with a plan of making it to Navarre. There was virtually no wind, but we were in no hurry.
Here’s a pic of the Portofino along the way.

Sailing…

The Bay was flat…

We stopped off at Big Sabine for lunch. Carol tried her luck at fishing while Pogo enjoyed the sun.

Pogo hanging out…

Once other BEER Cruisers started passing by Big Sabine we pulled anchor and followed along.

After a bit of sailing toward Navarre, there was indication of shoaling at the entrance of the channel to Juana’s, so there was question of where we could anchor. We decided to turn around and head back to Big Sabine for the night.
Turns out there were a couple of other BEER Cruisers with the same idea.

After we set the hook, had burgers for dinner, and swam, Blake enjoyed a movie in his quarter berth.

The moon coming up was gorgeous…

June 8, 2009…
After breakfast/coffee we pulled the anchor and set sail for a bob/bake session with virtually no wind.

The sunrise was nice…

Bay was flat…

Where’s the wind?

Our view along the Intracoastal…

Still no wind…

We arrived to Quietwater around noon…

A fellow Catalina sailor ran aground at the pier, so Ben took off to see if he could help.

Carol suggested to Ben that he mention for the Catalina sailor to raise a sail for extra momentum, so that’s what Ben did. It worked.

BEER Cruisers…

We grilled chicken for dinner, then Brice and Chris drove over to the boardwalk for evening cocktails. Ben picked them up with the dink.
Carol and Pogo watching the sunset…

Sunset was gorgeous…

More sunset…

June 9, 2009…
We pulled anchor about 5am and headed back.
Nice sunrise…

We made it back to our marina about 7am, packed up a few things, and headed home.
It was a fantastic weekend!!

May 30, 2009…
We left the slip early morning and headed toward Quietwater for the day.

I came down with a sinus thing on Friday morning, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying the day.

Blake was enjoying himself.

At one point the relaxation of the day overtook Blake and he went to sleep.

Lots of sailboats out.

Once we returned to the dock, Blake decided he needed to clean the dock piling.

We’re outta here for the day.

May 29, 2009…
We moved Monomoy over to the new marina this morning. The new slip is a dream to get in and out of. We have been fighting with the currents for over a year at the old slip. The new slip has no current and makes it so easy to get in and out without the need of judging the wind and water flow.
We went out for an afternoon sail and enjoyed the great weather. The wind was supposed to be calm all evening, but it built steadily and at one point we had 23 knot gusts. We forgot the camera, so no pictures today.
