Well, we were sailing on Memorial Day, but it wasn’t the prettiest of days.
It started out fine and dandy…

Blake said he was pretending to be a life guard…

Jody and fam were out again…

It rained on us quite a bit…

We were treated to a rainbow…

When we returned to the marina, the bilge pump was oddly running and it turned out that we had worn through all of our packing gland, but that’s another story.

May 17, 2009…
This morning I went over to Monomoy for a little cleanup in the cabin after yesterday’s cruising. I also performed the maintenance of our seasonal oil change. While I was at it, I cleaned the raw water strainer.
Since we are planning to do the Backwater Environmental Escape Rendezvous (B.E.E.R.) June 5-9, I wanted to go ahead and get the oil change out of the way before the trip. There are about 50 sailboats participating, all sailing the roundtrip distance of about 75 miles.

Went for an afternoon sail from about 12:30pm till about 5pm. Jody purchased a new pontoon boat about a week ago, so he was out with his daughter cruising about the bay.

The weather was funny. Wind was 10 knots with 15 knot gusts.
Port side view:

Starboard view at the exact same time:

Carol enjoyed the sun:

Blake practiced his meditation skills:

Blake took a picture of the Pensacola Bay Bridge in the distance:

Blake also took a picture of Ben at the helm:

We finished the evening by grilling hamburgers at the dock and then took an evening cruise with Jody, Chrys, and Myriah on their boat. Brice joined us for burgers and the evening cruise.

Took a nice day sail and it was gorgeous out.

Mother and son.

Carol took the helm for a bit.

Blake decided he needed some additional sunscreen on.

We were only out for a few hours, but it was perfect and quite enjoyable.

The photos today were taken by camera phone, so the quality isn’t the best, but you get the idea.
We spent the first half of the day catching up on yard work at home, so we didn’t make it out sailing, but we did go hang out on the boat at the dock for the afternoon and grilled burgers for dinner.
Our dock neighbor was returning from a day of wind surfing at the time we were done grilling the burgers, so we invited him over and he graciously accepted bringing a bottle of wine. Our dock neighbor lives in Quebec and speaks French as a native language, but does pretty well speaking English; he drives down to Florida during the summer months to enjoy sailing his Pearson 32 on Pensacola Bay. So we enjoyed the chit-chat.
The Oar House was busy in their typical fashion.

The sun was beautiful as it set behind the Chico Bridge.
