Here’s our new dinghy. We were using a little 2 person (with three of us on it) Coleman inflatable, which wasn’t very rigid and you would get wet. So for the extended camping weekend earlier this month, we picked up a new dinghy and trolling motor. It all deflates and stores easily when not used. It also holds the three of us, without getting wet.

Arrived to our boat Sunday morning to find crews keeping an eye on hotspots at the Oar House, which I’m sure all of you know by now, it burned down yesterday morning.
Luckily none of the vessels appeared harmed at the marina where I keep my boat. Witnesses say the heat was intense, but the wind was blowing the embers across the vessels at the marina next door to the Oar House, so I’m sure some of them had some damage.
We went sailing in the afternoon for a few hours and it was a quiet, easy sail with wind starting at around 5 knots and ending around 8-10 knots. No pictures today.

We had a break in the thunderstorms about 2pm, so we decided to set sail for a couple of hours. We started with ~12 knot winds, but it died down to about 4 knot winds around 3:30pm, so after drifting about 30 minutes, we motored back in and went to the Oar House for dinner.

Well, the intention was to do the BEER Cruise, but we didn’t exactly follow that plan due to the number of friends/family who wanted to join. I’m not the type of person to tell anyone that they can’t come along, so we came up with a compromise and that was to do our own cruise over to Ft. McRee and meet the friends/family who arrived on their stinkpots (powerboats). We still had the opportunity to sail alongside some of the BEER cruisers and I look forward to participating in the cruise itself next year. Here is a link to photos of the BEER group: http://photobucket.com/BEER2008
Here are some photos from the weekend, which we still had a fantastic time.

It was a beautiful sailing day. Wind started around 5 knots and increased to around 10 knots before settling back down around 8 knots. We spent nearly the entire day out on the water and enjoyed watching many other boats sailing around as well. We cruised over to Sailboat Cove, but didn’t drop the hook and just spun around heading toward Bob Sykes Bridge (bridge to P’cola Beach), before changing heading again and making way for home port.
Here was a C34 enjoying the day…
